rundll32.exe Running High CPU usage (Solution) 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I recently had a problem with rundll32.exe starting when I played some games. Eg(Halo CE, Halo 2, Battlefield 2142/2/1942, warcraft III ect.) When I would start the game rundll32.exe would also start and go to 50% cpu usage. (if I had a single core CPU it would have been 100%) and the game would not start. (until I tried to launch it again) I was researching for a while and found out that it was a bug in game explorer. If you start a game that game explorer supports, and are not connected to the internet, game explorer tries to download box art and other game updates. But there is no time out on the download attempts, so it loops, making request after request trying to get updates and other files. To fix this I went to game explorer and selected options, changed (Game updates and news) to never check online, and also unchecked (Download art and information) and (Collect most recently played game information) under (Game folder options). Now rundll starts up, loads the dlls into ram and turns off. I hope this can help some of the people out there who game offline sometimes with win vista/7.

Note:
This problem only occurs if you play a game (That Game explorer supports) with out an internet connection active.

Also, I hope that Microsoft takes a note of the fact that game explorer still needs more work.
